ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX:ATY)(NASDAQ:ATYT), announced today that it has been added to the NASDAQ-100 Index(R). ATI stock will also be included in the NASDAQ-100 Index Tracking Stock (Amex: QQQ).
"ATI's inclusion in the NASDAQ-100 signals our company's emergence as one of the leading innovation companies in the world," said KY Ho, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ATI. "This achievement is testament to the hard work of the people at ATI who have built a world-leading visual processor company. Through our team's efforts, our visual processors have become the products of choice for every platform, from the PC to digital consumer markets of color cell phones, DTV and game consoles. The expansion of ATI's position in PC markets and growth opportunities in new markets has enabled us to deliver revenue growth and strong financial performance."
The announcement comes at the end of a year in which ATI has led the PC graphics market in terms of performance and technology, begun shipping media co-processors in large volume to Motorola for its high-selling "triplets" phones, announced HDTV technology wins with companies including Samsung and Sony, and announced technology development contracts with Nintendo and Microsoft's Xbox division.
The NASDAQ-100 Index, founded in 1985, comprises the 100 largest non-financial stocks on the NASDAQ Stock Market and was launched with the NASDAQ Financial-100 Index, which comprise the 100 largest financial stocks on NASDAQ. These indices were originally designed to segment NASDAQ into two major industry groups to support media coverage and to act as benchmarks for financial products such as options, futures, and funds. The NASDAQ-100 is re-ranked each year in December, timed to coincide with the quadruple witch options expiration Friday of the quarter.
Shares of each company in the Index are included in the NASDAQ-100 Index Tracking Stock(SM) (QQQ), which is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that trades like a stock. It is the world's most actively traded ETF. On most trading days, it is also the second most actively traded security in the U.S. QQQ represents ownership in the Nasdaq-100 Trust(SM). The Trust holds a portfolio of equity securities that comprise the NASDAQ-100 Index and aims to provide investment results that, before expenses, generally correspond with the NASDAQ-100 Index performance. Since its inception in March 1999, the Trust's total assets have grown to over $18 billion.
