ALi Corporation and Oregan Networks offer a first-to-market 802.11a/b/g Networked DVD Player reference design and a standalone digital media adapter, as turnkey solutions for Networked Media Products manufacturers.
The platforms are based on ALi's T6305 and T6306 new generation SoC supporting MPEG-1/2/4 playback or network A/V data streaming over wired or wireless networks, designed specifically for digital home entertainment client devices, to stream photos, video and audio over wireless networks.
Oregan's end-to-end middleware, comprising an Intel(R) NMPR conformant PC host stack and embedded client, facilitates standards-based media streaming, home networking and premium content delivery. The unified user interface for control and management of DVD, home media and IP premium content is incorporated with Oregan's fully featured TV Internet browser, enabling HTML and Macromedia Flash content rendering. Oregan's core networking, media streaming and browsing solution is enhanced with advanced client stack features, including UPnP automatic network and content discovery, online premium content access and interactive TV games.
"In the Digital Home era, identifying the right middleware provider is a task directly related to creating a unique value that is ultimately conducive to the competitiveness of the end product in the Consumer Electronics arena," said Dr. Chin Wu, president of ALi Corporation.
"In partnership with industry leading middleware providers like Oregan, ALi's most integrated SoC designs for Networked DVDs (T6305), and digital media adaptors (T6306), are aimed to empower ODM and OEM manufacturers, systems integrators, with ability to create differentiation in the market through cost effectiveness, 'least-effort' portability, flexible embedded OS support, unmatched customisability and remote in-the-field upgrades."
"Being at the forefront of Digital Home convergence means providing solutions that reinforce consumers' confidence in the Networked Media Product category," said Mark Perry, CEO of Oregan Networks. He added, "The release of this first-to-market 802.11a/b/g networked DVD player is a significant milestone for Oregan and ALi. The combination of ALi's powerful CPU, advanced codec support and cost effective bill of materials with Oregan's interoperability architecture, customisable Graphic User Interface engine and IP content streaming technology, constitutes a market leading turnkey solution."
Both companies strongly support industry standards to provide robust and future-proof solutions, driving consumer adoption of the networked products category. ALi and Oregan are contributors to the Digital Home Working Group (DHWG), and consistently coordinate their product roadmaps in line with requirements and design guidelines set by the Intel Networked Product Requirements and UPnP forum specifications.
OEM and ODM deployments of the ALi and Oregan platform are being demonstrated by a number of industry leading partners and customers at CES 2004.
