Transcend releases its 2.5" USB2.0/FireWire Combo Portable Hard Disk Drive Enclosure. There are three (3) versions: (1) Hard disk enclosure only; (2) Hard disk enclosure with 40GB HD; and (3) Hard disk enclosure with 80GB HD. Portable hard disk drives, also called pocket drives, are the best choice for transferring large amounts of data between computers.
This device is fully compatible with USB2.0 and FireWire (IEEE 1394A) specifications, and it is also backward compatible with USB1.1 specifications. Data transfer rate is up to 480 Mbps (USB2.0) and 400 Mbps (FireWire/IEEE 1394A), respectively. With both USB2.0 and FireWire connections, this pocket drive can be easily linked to any desktop or notebook. Unlike CD-RW's, which require special software, pocket drives will appear as just another hard drive. There isn't any extra driver software to worry about (except for Win98). You can use this pocket drive as a portable photo album, portable audio/video library, or data backup device on demand.
