Uit eerdere berichtgeving, zou blijken dat vandaag de AMD Athlon op 1,3 GHz. gereleased zal worden. Dit blijkt niet waar te zijn, zowel AMDZone als AnandTech geven aan dat er vandaag geen 1,3 GHz. processor van AMD gereleased zal worden.
Volgens AnandTech, hoeft AMD geen snellere processor te lanceren omdat de AMD Athlon 1,2 GHz. veel sneller is dan de Intel Pentium 4 1,5 GHz.
“AMD is more than content with the performance of their 1.2GHz Athlon versus the Pentium 4 1.5GHz and our review definitely backs up that feeling of security. When there's a need to release the 1.3GHz Athlon, AMD will do it, but don't expect that to be in the near future unless Intel bumps up the release of the 1.7GHz Pentium 4. Things will be very interesting once Northwood hits, but until then it doesn't seem like the Pentium 4 has much of a chance to compete.”
