WD ontzegt toegang tot My Cloud voor apparaten met verouderde firmware

Sinds enkele dagen hebben gebruikers geen toegang meer tot de clouddiensten van Western Digital indien hun My Cloud-apparaat verouderde firmware gebruikt. Dat heeft de fabrikant zelf bevestigd in zijn Security Bulletin. Dit wil zeggen dat de toegang tot gegevens via de website en de app wordt ontzegd tot het toestel weer up-to-date is. Het blijft wel mogelijk om de data lokaal te benaderen.


De WD My Cloud Home (links) en de Duo-versie.

De nieuwe software moet verschillende kritieke kwetsbaarheiden verhelpen, waaronder CVE-2022-36327 dat een kritieke CVSS-score van 9,8 heeft gekregen. Ook CVE-2022-36236, CVE-2022-36328 en CVE-2022-29840 worden genoemd. Door ongepatchte apparaten te weren van zijn clouddienst wil het bedrijf vermoedelijk voorkomen dat hackers vrij spel krijgen.

Bij de verschillende My Cloud- en WD Cloud-apparaten moet minstens software-versie 5.26.202 of nieuwer worden geïnstalleerd, gevolgd door 9.4.1-101 of nieuwer in het geval van de My Cloud Home (Duo) en SanDisk ibi.
