De EVGA GeForce GTX 980 K|NGP|N ACX 2.0+ is gemaakt voor de kleine doelgroep van extreme overklokkers die het niet erg vinden om een paar honderd euro meer neer te tellen voor een kaart met gegarandeerd goede overklokmogelijkheden. Keiharde garanties over te verwachten klokfrequenties geeft EVGA (helaas) niet, maar er is wel de belofte dat men voor de kaarten specifiek uitgezochte GPU's en geheugenchips gebruikt. Bij het sample dat testten - waarvan we moeten benadrukken dat die niet via EVGA's PR afdeling is gekomen en dus geen golden sample is - blijkt die belofte in ieder geval niet hol: we krijgen de kaart met eigen koeler duidelijk hoger overklokt dan alle eerder door ons geteste GTX 980 met hogere benchmarkresultaten tot gevolg. EVGA bracht onlangs een speciale 'Kingpin' editie van haar GeForce GTX 980 op de markt. Zoals de naam doet vermoeden heeft top-overklokker Kingpin input geleverd bij het ontwerpen van deze extreme kaart die speciaal bedoeld is voor maximale prestaties. Wij gingen met de kaart aan de slag en zoeken of tot welke klokfrequenties we de kaart konden overklokken.
