23 Intel Z390 moederborden review + VRM test: welk bord is écht 8-core waardig?

Het aantal geteste moederborden is uiteraard te groot om elk individueel model uitgebreid te beschrijven, maar op de komende pagina's nemen we in ieder geval de belangrijkste verschillen door.

Vrijwel alle Intel Z390-moederborden bieden ondersteuning voor Nvidia SLI, op enkele budgetmodellen en natuurlijk de mini-ITX borden met maar één PCIe slot na. Buitenbeentje is de SuperMicro Supero C9Z390-PGW, die weliswaar vier PCIe 3.0 x16-sloten heeft dankzij een PLX-chip, maar desondanks geen SLI-certificaat heeft. Alleen de topmodellen van Asus en Gigabyte ondersteunen ook 3-way SLI, maar bij de recentste twee generaties heeft Nvidia het combineren van meer dan twee kaarten de nek omgedraaid, dus heel relevant is dat niet meer.

De meeste moederbordfabrikanten houden het bij de sata-poorten die standaard uit de Intel-chipset komen; alleen ASRock plaatst op enkele high-end modellen een extra ASMedia-controller zodat er acht in plaats van zes sata-poorten geboden kunnen worden. M.2 is inmiddels gemeengoed en er is zelfs maar één bord dat geen tweede m.2-slot heeft, namelijk de Gigabyte Z390 UD, niet toevallig één van de goedkoopste modellen uit de test. Alleen de duurste borden van ASRock, Gigabyte en MSI hebben zelfs een derde plek voor een m.2-ssd. Je krijgt lang niet altijd net zo veel m.2-koelers bij je moederbord als dat er m.2-sloten zijn, en bij de goedkoopste borden zelfs helemaal geen.
