9 IPS notebooks review: laptops met beter beeld

BTO U.Book 15CL14

Baas in eigen laptop. Dat zou een prima devies kunnen zijn voor BTO, de Nederlandse notebookbouwers. Hier kun je terecht als je zelf wilt bepalen hoe je volgende laptop er uitziet. Net als de Acer heeft de BTO U.Book 15CL14 een niet-glimmend 15,6 inch IPS-scherm, met een Full HD-resolutie. Eerder besteedden we in een aparte review aandacht aan deze notebook, hij past prima in dit overzicht.

De barebone die BTO gebruikt biedt behoorlijk wat mogelijkheden. Er is ruimte voor een Intel Core-processor uit de tweede (Sandy Bridge) of derde (Ivy Bridge) generatie, een SSD, een mSATA SSD en een dvd-station. Die laatste kun je vervangen door een extra harde schijf of een Blu-ray drive. Zo kun je dus maximaal drie disks in deze machine kwijt. Een minpuntje is wellicht het feit dat er, in tegenstelling tot bij veel andere notebooks van dit merk, er geen losse grafische processor is ingebouwd. Je moet het doen met de Intel HD Graphics van de Intel-processor.

Ons testmodel was (natuurlijk) geen instappertje: een quad-core Intel Core i7-3632QM, 8 GB werkgeheugen (twee 4 GB DDR3-1600 Corsair First Class Vengeance), en een Samsung 840 Pro SSD met een capaciteit van 128 GB. Dat wordt gecombineerd met lekker veel aansluitingen: we tellen twee keer USB 3.0, twee keer USB 2.0 (we hadden natuurlijk liever USB 3.0), een gigabit netwerkaansluiting en een HDMI- en VGA-aansluiting.

Het gewicht is voor een 15,6 inch laptop lekker laag: 2,2 kilo. De werktijd bij rustig gebruik is vrij goed te noemen: 4 uur en 50 minuten. Moet hij harder werken, dan is de adapter na ongeveer 2 uur 20 minuten nodig.

De BTO U.Book 15CL14 heeft weliswaar geen Ultrabook label, maar is lichter dan de HP Spectre Ultrabook.
